THE city’s coronavirus ‘hotspots’ have been revealed with the latest figures showing several parts of Worcester recording 60 or more cases in a week.

A total of 77 cases were recorded in King George’s Field in Worcester - which covers WR3 and WR4 postcodes including parts of Astwood Road, Tolladine Road, Langdale Drive, Brickfields Road and Blackpole Road – between January 4 and January 10.

A total of 71 cases were recorded in Lyppard Grange and 69 cases were recorded in Dines Green and St John's.

Public Health England data shows eight areas recording 50 cases or more during the same period with every part of the city recording 38 cases or more.

Four areas in the city also have very high average infection rates according to the latest figures with the rest of the city remaining high.

Lyppard Grange had an infection rate of 1,177.6 cases per 100,000 people between January 4 and January 10.

Warndon West had an infection rate of 891.6 cases per 100,000 people during the same period.

The area classed as King George's Field had an average infection rate of 856.1 cases per 100,000 people.

Ronkswood and Nunnery Wood also recorded a high infection rate at 824.4 cases per 100,000 people.

Areas with infection rates above 800 cases per 100,000 people are placed in the highest 'hotspot' category by Public Health England (PHE).

PHE's coronavirus map shows where the most cases have been recorded with the three areas in Worcester highlighted dark purple because of the soaring infection rates.

The coronavirus hotspot figures are split into several ‘middle super output areas’ – which are used by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) - of which Worcester is split into 14 zones.

These zones are slightly larger than postcode areas with an average population of around 7,200 people in each.

A total of 61 cases were recorded in Barbourne and Rainbow Hill and 60 cases were recorded in Lower Wick and Bromwich Road.

Worcester Town South - which covers most of the city centre towards Worcester Cathedral as well as Sidbury, parts of London Road, Wyld's Lane and Lowesmoor - recorded a total of 55 cases between January 4 and January 10.

A total of 54 cases were recorded in Ronkswood and Nunnery Wood and 52 cases were recorded in Battenhall and Diglis.

Warndon West recorded 49 cases and Warndon East recorded 45 cases in the same week.

Northwick recorded 43 cases and 38 cases were recorded in Worcester Town North which covers many WR1 and some WR3 postcodes and includes most of the city centre, Arboretum and Barbourne.

A total of 39 cases were recorded in St Peters during the week and 8 cases were recorded in Henwick.
