A MASS coronavirus vaccination site in Worcester is expected to open imminently.

St Peter’s Baptist Church in Eden Close was earmarked as a mass coronavirus vaccination centre in November.

Documents seen by the Worcester News said the site was due to be ready for use as a vaccination centre as early as Monday, November 30, but it has yet to open to the public.

The Worcester News understands that final preparations are being put in place for the site to open in the next couple of weeks, with staff seen readying the location in recent days.

A source said: “Staff have been finishing off the final preparations to make sure the site is ready for a safe and secure launch.”

In the meantime, local Primary Care Networks and GP surgeries have been delivering vaccinations to patients from locations such as Turnpike House in Worcester.

A spokesperson for the Herefordshire and Worcestershire CCG said that “no further detail has been announced by the Government,” and that these are “being announced nationally.”

However, the Worcester News understands that an official announcement is expected imminently, with the site expected to be open within the coming weeks.

The church is one of two Worcestershire venues designated under the plans, with the former Artrix Theatre in Bromsgrove the other which is expected to open in days.

It’s understood that vaccinations would be delivered by NHS staff and that care home staff and residents plus workers and patients in primary care facilities, such as hospitals, would be prioritised.
