FLOODING of roads and farmland is expected in Evesham and surrounding villages later this week in the wake of Storm Christoph.

River levels are rising across the county but not to the extent being suffered northern parts of the country.

Current Met Office weather forecasts suggest the rain will stop overnight but the excess water is still expected to cause problems with 15 flood alerts – which warns the public to “be prepared” – issued for Worcestershire.

Evesham Journal:

Levels of the River Avon are forecast to rise at the Evesham gauge with flooding of roads and farmland possible overnight tonight and into tomorrow (Thursday, January 21).

Low-lying land and roads adjacent the River Avon from Abbotts Salford to Tewkesbury are expected to be worst affected with areas of Offenham, Evesham, Twyning and the Eckington Road potentially affected.

The wider concern in these areas is that river levels are not expected to peak until Friday or Saturday.

Villages farther north, on the outskirts of Redditch, are expected to be worst affected by the rise in levels at the Besford Bridge gauge but Crowle, Wickenham, Peopleton, Pinvin and Pershore may also feel the effects.

To the east of Evesham, high levels at the river gauge at Hinton on the Green are causing an expectation of flooding of low-lying land and roads adjacent to the river from North Littleton to Winchcombe.

Other locations that may be affected are Badsey, Childswickham, Broadway, Sedgeberrow, Toddington and the Road at Hinton on the Green bridge.

River levels at Sedgeberrow and Hinton are expected to peak tomorrow morning.

In all instances, the public is advised to avoid low-lying roads near rivers.
