THE city’s coronavirus ‘hotspots’ have been revealed with the latest figures showing four areas in the city with high infection rates.

The area in the city with the highest infection rate was Ronkswood and Nunnery Wood at 1,007.6 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 66 cases were recorded in the week up to January 15.

A total of 75 cases were recorded in King George’s Field - which covers WR3 and WR4 postcodes including parts of Astwood Road, Tolladine Road, Langdale Drive, Brickfields Road and Blackpole Road – between January 9 and January 15.

The number of cases in King George's Field was the most recorded in any recorded part of the city in a week and meant the area had an infection rate of 833.9 cases per 100,000 people.

Sixty cases were both recorded in Dines Green and St John's as well as Battenhall and Diglis during the week.

Areas with infection rates above 800 cases per 100,000 people are placed in the highest 'hotspot' category by Public Health England (PHE).

PHE's coronavirus map shows where the most cases have been recorded with four areas in Worcester highlighted dark purple because of the soaring infection rates.

The coronavirus hotspot figures are split into several ‘middle super output areas’ – which are used by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) - of which Worcester is split into 14 zones.

These zones are slightly larger than postcode areas with an average population of around 7,200 people in each.

Warndon West recorded 45 cases and had an infection rate of 818.8 cases per 100,000 people - the third highest for the city.

Lyppard Grange recorded 49 cases - the seventh most in the city - but also recorded a high infection rate of 812.7 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 52 cases were recorded in Northwick and 50 cases were recorded in Barbourne and Rainbow Hill in the week up to January 15.

Worcester Town South - which covers most of the city centre towards Worcester Cathedral as well as Sidbury, parts of London Road, Wyld's Lane and Lowesmoor - recorded a total of 41 cases.

A total of 35 cases were recorded in Worcester Town North which covers many WR1 and some WR3 postcodes and includes most of the city centre, Arboretum and Barbourne.

Warndon East saw 47 cases recorded, 44 cases were recorded in Lower Wick and Bromwich Road, 35 cases were recorded in St Peters and 23 cases were recorded in Henwick.
