A NUMBER of roads have closed as Storm Christoph hits Worcestershire.

The closures follows reports of vehicles getting stuck in flood water overnight including on the A443 near Elms Hotel, Abberley.

The most up to date list from Worcestershire Highways, as of 8.30am, says the following are closed in Worcestershire:

A443, Lindridge (between Abberley and Tenbury)

Stourport Road, Bewdley

New Street, Upton

Brook Lane, Cropthorne

Jubilee Bridge, Fladbury

Houndsfield Lane Ford, Wythall

Ravenhayes Lane, Frankley

Shell Ford, Droitwich

Walcot Ford, Pershore

Dunns Lane & Waterside, Upton closed

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said it had attended two reports of cars stuck in flood water on the A443.

The first was at around 10.30pm last night when firefighters attended a car stuck on the road near Elms Hotel, Abberley.

The firefighters saud the occupant of car had managed to escape the vehicle without their assistance, before they arrived.

And this morning, at 05.53am, a water rescue team rescued a person from vehicle in flood water, A443 Lindridge.

Inspector Lewis Lincoln-Gordon of West Mercia Police said last night: "We are currently getting a number of calls in relation to vehicles getting stuck in flood water.

"Please, please do not drive through flood water."

Jon Laight, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service Station Commander said yesterday: "Have been out with crews from @HWFire rescuing people from vehicles stuck in water.

"Please spread the word: Do not try to drive through deep flowing water. There is always another way to get to your destination."

Dave Throup, Environment Agency manager for Worcestershire, said: "Inevitably two days of huge rainfall in Wales is having an impact.

"Dozens of flood warnings and alerts across the Severn & Wye catchments. There will be a lot more."
