THE coronavirus crisis has devastated the hospitality industry, with many pubs worried about the future.

With that in mind, we have picked five Worcester watering-holes we can't wait to revisit once the current restrictions are lifted.

1: The Cardinal's Hat - Friar Street

The Cardinal's Hat, which claims to be the oldest pub in Worcester, is one of the top spots for a nice drink with friends in the city.

A previous winner of our Pub of the Year competition, landlord Nigel Smith and his team have created a great traditional atmosphere and we can't wait to go back there again.

2: The Alma Tavern - Droitwich Road

Taken over in 2019 by Will Bradley and Jon Dean, the Alma has become a firm favourite among locals, with the pub being one of the most popular in out Pub of the Year competition for 2020.

The Droitwich Road venue has had a turbulent past, at one point being closed for 18 months after its previous tenant decided to leave, but the pub was saved and was doing great business until the lockdown.

3: The Bell Inn - St John's

One of two St John's pubs in our list, the Bell is a real "drinker's pub" and is at the centre of the St John's community.

A former courthouse before 1830, the pub has been serving the community in one form or another for decades, seeing St John's move from being a village on the outskirts of Worcester to a fully-fledged city suburb.

4: The Bedwardine - St John's

The second St John's pub to make it onto our list, The Bedwardine aka The Beddy, has been a much-loved fixture in the area for years.

It has been crowned Worcester News Pub of the Year twice, winning the award in 2018 and 2019 with readers praising its community feel and welcoming atmosphere, as well as its fine selection of beers and ales.

5: The Paul Pry - The Butts

Another of Worcester's excellent independent pubs, the Paul Pry is a favourite among drinkers in Worcester.

With a great selection of beers and excellent food on offer, the Paul Pry is one of the best places to go in Worcester to get out of the cold and have a drink or two.

During the coronavirus lockdown, the team from the Paul Pry have kept the pub open for food deliveries, helping combat the worst effects of the downturn in trade caused by the crisis.
