CAUTIOUS optimism over the River Avon’s levels dropping could be tested over the next few days with more rain forecast.

The Flood Warning Information Service (FWIS) says areas close to the river between Abbotts Salford to Tewkesbury are still being affected by flooding with Offenham, Evesham, Twyning and the Eckington Road also part of an active flood alert in which the public is advised to “be prepared”.

UPDATE: Flooding and weather latest for Evesham/Pershore (January 26)

The latest from FWIS reads: “River levels remain high but are now beginning to fall at the Evesham and Bredon river gauges as a result of heavy rainfall.

“Evesham peaked early Friday morning at 2.67m, Bredon peaked on Friday night at 2.96m.

“Rain is expected in the next few days which may keep river levels high and we will monitor for any further impacts.

“We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences.

“Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”

The Met Office predicts rain will arrive in Evesham late morning tomorrow (Tuesday, January 25), becoming heavy in the afternoon with a 40 per cent chance or higher of rain through to 8pm.

More rain is expected in the early hours of Wednesday morning and then more persistent, heavy rain through the night heading into Thursday morning.
