THREE areas the city still have very high infection rates according to the latest figures.

A total of 55 cases were recorded in Ronkswood and Nunnery Wood in the week up to January 20 giving the area an infection rate of 839.7 cases per 100,000 people.

The number of cases in Ronkswood and Nunnery Wood dropped by 12 per cent but still remained high according to Public Health England’s latest coronavirus hotspot map.

Warndon West saw 45 cases recorded in the same week giving the area an infection rate of 818.8 cases per 100,000 people.

The number of cases in Warndon West dropped by eight per cent on figures from a week earlier but also remained high.

A total of 65 cases were recorded in Northwick giving the area an infection rate of 804.9 cases per 100,000 people.

The number of cases in Northwick increased by more than 70 per cent on a week earlier when 38 cases were recorded.

Areas with infection rates above 800 cases per 100,000 people are placed in the highest 'hotspot' category by Public Health England (PHE).

PHE's coronavirus map shows where the most cases have been recorded with three areas in Worcester highlighted dark purple because of the highest infection rates.

The coronavirus hotspot figures are split into several ‘middle super output areas’ – which are used by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) - of which Worcester is split into 14 zones.

These zones are slightly larger than postcode areas with an average population of around 7,200 people in each.
