MANY of the county’s most successful festivals are facing an uncertain 2021, but some are still going ahead as planned.

Last week we reported how the Upton Folk Festival had been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The festival’s organisers said the ongoing uncertainty meant it was not possible to hold the popular event, but added they were looking into running it virtually this year.

Despite this cancellation, another of Worcestershire’s popular festivals, the Sunshine Festival, does appear to still be going ahead as planned.

Due to take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend, the festival has already confirmed big name acts including James Blunt for this year.

The Mello Festival, also taking place in Upton, is also still scheduled for this year, with another big name, Joss Stone, taking part.

Woo Fest, which also takes place in the town, is planned to go ahead this year. Luke Simons, one of the organisers, said: “We are remaining forever hopeful it will go ahead as planned on July 3.

"I think it’s much needed for both our great customers, who come year after year, but also to for St Richard’s Hospice, who have been badly hit by the pandemic like organisations all over.

"We are also still the reigning best small festival in the Uk- (UK Festival Awards) so we want to build on that in 2021.

"At the moment we are holding to see what happens with current lockdown.

"We have thoughts on how we can adapt to a new environment but really we need to see what the advice will be.

"We will absolutely do something - music is so important and our acts are phenomenal, so we will know more by mid February.”

The Upton Blues Festival, another of the county’s best-known music festivals, is also still planned to take place.

The festival is due to be held on July 15 to July 18, and is still set to go ahead, pandemic allowing.
