IF Sarah and Gareth Williams thought they were going to have a quiet start to the new year, they were in for a surprise, when baby Edward Lloyd Williams was born just 47 minutes into 2021 – four weeks early.

Edward weighed 5lb 10oz when he was born at Worcestershire Royal Hospital and after a six-day stay with mum Sarah in the Transitional Care Unit at the hospital, was allowed home to meet big brother Thomas, who had been unable to visit his new sibling in hospital because of coronavirus restrictions.

Sarah said: “We would especially like to say a huge thank you to every single one of the community midwives, and the staff in the antenatal ward, delivery ward and transitional care unit at Worcester Royal Hospital who cared for us.

“They made a scary and uncertain time much more bearable and we will forever be grateful to them for the care, support and compassion they have given us.”
