RAPISTS, dangerous drivers and drug dealers are among many of the Malvern court cases heard in the last 12 months. Here is our rundown of five of the most notable:

1: Dangerous driver killed pensioner

A ‘clueless’ and ‘unkind’ boy racer who killed a grandfather during a fatal crash and tried to blame his grieving daughter-in-law for his death wept as he was put behind bars.

Daniel Freeman-Hollins, who had never even had a driving lesson let alone passed a test, was speeding when he crashed off the road near the Robin Hood pub in Gloucester Road, Castlemorton, near Malvern killing Raymond Johnstone.

The 20-year-old then tried to blame the victim’s daughter-in-law, Ruth Johnstone, who had been carefully pulling out of the pub car park

2: Thug spat at police officer

Homeless man Said Khalid, who spat at and kicked a police officer in Malvern, was jailed in July last year.

28 year-old Said Khalid, of no fixed abode, was jailed after he admitted to the assault, which took place on July 6.

Magistrates in Kidderminster heard how Khalid had been at Great Malvern station at around 10.15pm on July 6.

He had been acting aggressively after he was asked to get off the train.

Railway staff then called the police, who arrived to make Khalid move.

While there, he spat in the face of one of the officers, kicking him in the shin.

3: Man who was shot by police jailed

Edward Mark Williams was jailed in 2020 following an incident in Bromsgrove which saw him shot by police officers.

In November 2018, police were called to reports of a man with a handgun.

Williams was found in Birmingham Road and during the incident shots were fired by trained firearms officers.

Williams suffered gunshot wounds and was given emergency first aid by police at the scene before being taken to hospital where he received surgery.

4: Malvern man raped 83 year-old woman

Keith Brown, aged 55 from Blakes Lane, Malvern, was sentenced to 10 years and eight months extended for three years to serve on licence at Worcester Crown Court.

Brown pleaded guilty to the rape, which happened in the early hours of Thursday, August 13.

He was also given a restraining order not to contact the victim for life.

5: Pair involved in county lines drug dealing jailed

Rubel Miah and Usman Shahzad were stopped by police officers in North Malvern Road and were found in possession of a number of mobile phones, cash and heroin.

During the course of the investigation it was discovered that they had also travelled to Malvern on a number of previous occasions.
