A 'MAD' swimmer who jumped into the swollen river Severn from the main bridge at Worcester has handed himself in.

Police, fire crews and ambulances rushed to the riverside at about 1.30pm yesterday to rescue the swimmer as he swam down the centre of the river in nothing but his boxer shorts. He swam towards Diglis where it is understood he got out of the water and then walked along Severn Street. He handed himself in to West Mercia Police today,

How we first reported the incident

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "Further to this appeal, the man question has called in to identify himself and confirm he is thankfully safe and well. He will now be interviewed by officers in the coming days."

"I thought they were having a prank. He was naked apart from his boxer's and he had bare feet. I just saw the big splash" the 63-year-old said.
