HYLTON Road is expected to be closed for three hours tonight as life along the River Severn takes a welcome step back towards normality.

Flood pumps will be removed from the area after ongoing problems since the back end of last month (January).

The Flood Warning Information Service (FWIS) says flooding is still possible in the most troublesome spots in Worcester – including South Quay, Diglis Parade and Hylton Road towpath – but river levels continue to drop.

“River levels remain high but continue to fall slowly at Bewdley and Worcester,” its latest statement read.

“Flooding of roads & farmland is expected to continue. We expect flooding to be affecting low-lying land and roads adjacent to the river from Highley to Tewkesbury.

“Locations that may be affected include Stourport, Holt Fleet, Worcester, Kempsey, Severn Stoke and Upton.

“Flooded drains may also affect the racecourse and Worcester County cricket ground.

“Gates are closed at Upton and New Street may be impassable. Kempsey Flood Alleviation scheme is operational.

“No significant rain is forecast over the next 24 hours. We are continuing to monitor the situation.”

An alert is also still in place on the River Avon, affecting areas in and around Evesham.

The FWIS said: “River levels remain high at both Evesham and Bredon river gauges as a result of recent rainfall.

“Flooding of roads and farmland continues. Flooding is affecting low-lying land and roads adjacent to the River Avon from Abbotts Salford to Tewkesbury.

“Other locations that may be affected include Offenham, Evesham, Twyning and the Eckington Road. Mill Bank Road from Jubilee Bridge to Fladbury is impacted.

“No significant rainfall is expected over the next 24 hours. We are continuing to monitor the situation.

“Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
