THE coronavirus infection rate continues to plummet due to lockdown, with drops across all areas of the county.

According to latest figures Worcester’s infection rate was 249 cases per 100,000 people in the week up to February 5.

The rate at which it is dropping can be seen in comparison with the city’s rate we reported earlier this week - when it was 294.4 cases per 100,000 people in the week up to February 2.

There is a similar picture in Worcestershire’s rate - which was at 212.2 in the week up to February 5, compared with 257.5 per 100,000 in the week up to February 2.

The highest infection rate in Worcester remains in Dines Green and St John’s which were at 430.1 cases per 100,000 people in the week up to February 5. But that is a drop from 498 cases per 100,000 people in the week up to February 2.

The infection rate in Wychavon, which includes Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich, was 210.1 for the week up to February 5.

Malvern Hills has a rate of 136 cases per 100,000 people in the week up to February 5.

Wyre Forest’s latest rate is 182.6 per 100,000 people

Bromsgrove’s infection rate was 180.2 cases per 100,000, while Redditch remains having the highest infection rate in the county, at 314.3 cases per 100,000.

New figures have also revealed more than 2 million coronavirus vaccinations have been given out in the Midlands so far.

The most recent NHS data available shows in total 2,087,248 jabs, both first and second dose combined, had been given out so far.

The figures, from December 8 until February 7, show 498,333 over 80s had received their first dose, and 48,555 had received a second.

The numbers also show 372,562 first doses had been given out to those aged between 75 and 79-years-old, and 414,361 first doses had been given to those between 70 and 74-years-old.
