A SURGERY has been getting nominations for our GP Practise of the Year award.

St Martin’s Gate Surgery has received the nomination in the category, one of many in the prestigious Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards.

One nomination for the surgery, in Newtown Road, came from reader Phil Whitehouse who said: “Their consistent quality of service in all respects from telephone answering, through professional and friendly reception staff to the excellent medical care from all nurses and doctors.

“Reception staff seem to go out of their way to welcome patients and make them feel comfortable, treating them as friends.

"From talking to other patients in the waiting rooms and my own experience all the team are valued very highly. There are no stand out persons - all that I have had contact with show a universal professionalism and care for the wellbeing of patients and, importantly a friendly attitude.”

Practise manager Karen Chidlow said being nominated would make staff proud and be a reminder they are valued by the community.

“They are all working so hard,” the manager said.

“Staff have all adapted well to the new way of working, and reaching out to our patients, but we never stopped seeing patients face-to-face. It is all working well. Patients often don’t see what goes on behind the scenes, and that we are doing things for the right reasons.”

The 2021 Health and Social Care Awards categories are: The Health Care Team Award, The Care Hero Award, The Care Home Worker Award, The Care Trainer Award, The Health Care Employer Award, Domiciliary Care Worker Award, The Good Nurse Award, Adolescent and Child Health Care Award, The Dementia Carer Award, The Palliative/ End of Life Care Award, The Mental Health Award, and the GP Practice of the Year Award.

Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust has backed the awards by becoming a partner, and we are calling out to other organisations to sponsor the awards to show their appreciation for the county’s health and care workers.

Michael Purton, the editor of the Worcester News, Malvern Gazette and Evesham Journal, said: “The people who work in the health and social care industry have always been an inspiration, not just during the pandemic.

“These awards are our way of thanking them for their incredible dedication and skill. I would urge all of our readers to nominate an individual or team, to show them how much you appreciate everything they do.”
