FOUR people have admitted taking part in a bloody brawl outside a Worcester community centre, which left one of those injured suffering a bleed on the brain.

Two others, alleged to have been involved in the street fight that took place not far from Warndon Youth and Community Centre in Shap Drive last June, have also appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.

Footage of the brawl, which took place at around 7pm on June 10, was shown to magistrates as they decided the offences were so serious their powers were insufficient to deal with the case.

Abdul Muffasir, aged 23, of Northfield Street, Worcester, and Keah Hempstock, 23, of Sycamore Road, Worcester, both pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

Suzanne Burfitt, 36, of Poplar Avenue, Brickfields, and Adam Rock, 37, of Lyme Grove, Stockport, Manchester – who appeared via videolink to the court – pleaded guilty on a basis that is disputed by the Crown Prosecution Service.

The particulars of the offence, read out to each defendant during separate hearings due to coronavirus rules on the number of people allowed in court at one time, say that they “on June 6, 2020, at Worcester, used or threatened unlawful violence when present together with others, being three or more persons in total, who used or threatened unlawful violence and the conduct taken together was such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness present at the scene to fear for his or her personal safety.”

Meanwhile, Aaron Wiggett, 35, of Martindale Close, Warndon, and Halit Gocmen, 22, of Dunmow Avenue, Worcester, gave no indication of their plea to the violent disorder charge when they appeared at the court on Thursday.

CCTV footage of the brawl , watched by magistrates, showed the running battles and chaos as people were attacked on the ground.

Mark Hambling, prosecuting, said: “As you see for yourselves it meets the criteria of violent disorder.

“The Crown places (the offence) at a starting point of two years (custody) with a range between one and three years.

“We base that on it is violent disorder, and there are weapons either used or possessed with the intention of using.

“Injuries included broken bones and a bleed on a brain. Your powers are insufficient and it should be sent to crown to be dealt with there.”

We reported at the time that witnesses said that one of the weapons used was a rolling pin, and police said in a statement that one woman was taken to hospital after the melee.

Tariq Khan, defending Gocmen, and Mark Turnbull, defending Wiggett, offered no observations when asked if they agreed it should be sent to crown court for trial.

Gareth Thomas, chairman of the magistrates bench, said: “We are agreed: crown court.”

Muffasir, Hempstock, Burfitt and Rock were all told their sentencing hearing would be held at Worcester Crown Court on March 26.

Wiggett and Gocmen were told to appear at the court court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on March 25.

All six defendants were given unconditional bail.
