A CITY bed and breakfast looks set to be converted into assisted living flats under new plans.

The 14-room St Lawrence Hotel, on the junction of Bath Road and Bolston Road in Worcester, would be transformed into ten supported living flats as part of plans put forward by Safe as Houses Investment.

The building has been used for emergency accommodation during the coronavirus pandemic according to the application.

Accommodation for 24-hour support staff would also be built as part of the plans.

The work has been backed by commissioners at Worcestershire County Council according to the application.

The planning application submitted to Worcester City Council said minor changes would be made to both the inside and outside of the building.

“The building is a considerable sized, three-storey, traditionally styled Edwardian house with various modern additions," the application said.

“It includes accommodation in the roof space, which spans over the majority of the property footprint.

“The property will be fully refurbished and upgraded throughout combined with minor changes to the internal layout.

“The proposal is for a change of use but incorporates minor internal and external repairs that will add to the design quality of the building.

“The footprint of the building is to remain the same and the floor area will not increase. The room arrangement has been informed by a desire to retain the character of the existing layout and key architectural features on the external facades of the building.”

The plans can be viewed via the planning section of Worcester City Council’s website.

The application number is 21/00069/FUL.

Public consultation ends on March 17.
