SIR – David Withey’s response to my letter (Planning refusal is not end of the story, March 3) raises a valid point. But, he has merely stated the obvious.
That local residents will be ignored when facing developers is seemingly a given. The pyrrhic victory over Battenhall Farm is an example of this. Although residents resisted they still had to accept 500 homes.
This signifies that deep pockets cannot necessarily win the day for those who object and that money doesn’t guarantee victory.
It does however, demonstrate how sad that the objections from local residents and councillors will no doubt be overlooked and ignored merely based on who places the highest bid.
Will Worcester planning officers act based on the concerns of the community, or who places the highest bid regardless of legal action? I shall let your readers decide the answer to that, but the legacy of Lychgate speaks for itself.
