ROADWORKS invariably bring headaches to everyone – traders, drivers, pedestrians and residents all.
Those that went on in New Street in 1992 covered all the bases but there was still room for a little humour in 1992 when a prankster took to leaving dummy legs and fake notices in an effort to lighten the mood.
The Worcester News even put up a £50 charity donation to the reader who managed to unmask the joker.
A mystery caller revealed the New Street prankster to be none other than 55-year-old Ivan Steele.
Determined to cheer everyone up, Ivan stuck messages to newly constructed bollards referring to the upheaval as the “Second Battle Of Worcester”.
A week later he struck again with an alleged bodily find from the original skirmish in 1651 in the shape of half a torso sticking out of a trench.

The money was donated to the WRVS with clothing organiser Jean Johnson receiving the cheque from Ivan.
Here's a selection of pictures from around that time in New Street, as well as some stretchijng much farther back.
