A FRUSTRATED Warndon Villages resident has resorted to putting up a sign pleading for people to stop dumping dog mess bags.

A councillor has backed the message “Please stop throwing your dog poo bags in the bushes put them in the bins’ which is on the sign that has been put up in a path off the B4638 Woodgreen Drive.

Andrew Cross, a Warndon Villages parish councillor, said: “It is really grim to see bags of dog poo flung into trees or hedges - it is one of the worst things to clear up.

“On some local litter pick sessions we have filled big black bags full of such bags - on one occasion, more than 200 dog poo bags from Tolladine Wood alone.

“Whether it’s due to a few dog owners being too lazy or selfish to carry bagged poo to the nearest dog poo bin, or whether miscreants are taking bags of dog poo out of bins and flinging them around - as happened a few years ago where Old Tolladine Road ends by Woodgreen Drive - the end result is unpleasant, unhealthy and undesirable.

“I really hope this home-made sign has a positive impact.”

After the councillor posted the picture to the Warndon Villages Community Group some residents also speculated why it was happening, with one reporting he had seen youths getting bags out of the bins and throwing them around.

Others said the dog mess bags could have been left by people due to overflowing bins in the area.

Cllr Cross added: “Council budgets are under extra pressure due to the pandemic and the cost of Worcester City Council employees cleaning up this sort of mess is an avoidable expense.

“Hopefully the new style bins being brought out by Worcester City Council will help reduce bagged dog mess being taken out of bins.”

A spokesman for Worcester City Council stressed if people see an overflowing bin they should take the mess to the next one, or dispose of it properly in a litter bin.

“It is your responsibility as a dog owner to dispose of it," the spokesman said.

“It is completely unacceptable to dump the dog mess.”

Anyone who sees an overflowing or overfilled bin, both a dog poo or litter, can report this at worcester.gov.uk/street-care-cleansing/street-litter-dog-bins, selecting the 'Street Cleansing & Public Toilets' option.
