MEMBERS of Extinction Rebellion held a protest in Worcester yesterday to campaign against some the world's largest banks -who they claim are 'leading investors in climate collapse'.

The group protested outside Barclays Bank in the high street and HSBC in Broad Street in the city centre.

A spokesman for XR said the protest was held to 'raise awareness of the trillions of dollars still invested by banks in fossil fuels', and was in support of the launch of a global Money Rebellion campaign which saw actions take place across multiple continents worldwide yesterday.

Alan Spencer of Extinction Rebellion Worcester, said: "Every day our biggest banks are getting away with murder.

"Since 2015, banks like HSBC and Barclays have poured 3.8 trillion dollars into fossil fuels.

"On top of this they continue to fund billions towards deforestation and other ecocidal industries.

"We want to let the public know that these banks are using their money to finance the destruction of our planet. We urge people to demand their bank does better. Switching to a more ethical bank is a great way to take action."

HSBC and Barclays have been approached for comment.
