A DELIVERY worker says he is now out of work after his bike was stolen from outside McDonalds.

Tanin Miah, 28, was an Uber Eats delivery rider up until his electric bike worth £1000 was stolen whilst he was collecting an order from McDonald's in The Foregate.

Mr Miah says the theft has left him 'extremely depressed' and 'out of work.'

He said: "These thieves have no humanity. I can't describe how sad I am feeling right now. Besides the obvious inconvenience I feel like I have lost all my income sources. By riding this bike everyday I was able to earn a little money, that was a huge deal for me.

"You know, I am just a delivery driver, It will take me a very long time to earn the money needed to replace it. The last two days have been extremely depressing for me.

"I just want my bike back."

Mr Miah has reported the theft to the police who he says are investigating the theft.

If you have any information regarding the bike you can call 101 and quote 22/23676/21.

This comes after Crowngate Shopping Centre announced it will be launching a new pop up bike storage this month to try and tackle theft.

Worcester City Council donated a grant of £2,500 on top of a £1,000 donation from West Mercia Police, to transform an empty unit close to the Angel Place entrance of the centre.

Ground hoops have been installed for secure lock-up of bikes, including dedicated CCTV coverage, power points for charging e-bicycles, alongside a space for inflating tyres and tightening seats and handlebars.

The new scheme is being delivered in partnership with West Mercia Police, whose records show that 350 bicycle thefts were recorded in South Worcestershire last year, with the majority in the city of Worcester.

This represents an increase of 83.2% compared to 2019.

West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “Bicycle theft is one of the few crimes to have seen an increase during the pandemic, and it can have a significant impact on victims both financially and psychologically, if travelling by bike is an essential part of a person’s livelihood.

“As Commissioner, I am, and remain committed to investing in crime prevention, and ensuring West Mercia Police has the resources it needs to provide the service the public rightly expects.”
