WE are so pleased to hear that the roadmap is on track and we can actively plan for the reopening of the Swan Theatre.

The main Swan Theatre building and adjacent studio building has been refreshed, repainted and reinvigorated over the past year and every aspect of the space is waiting to have life injected back into it by those who come to participate and see shows with us.

It is therefore quite fitting that it will be our youngest Worcester Live participants who will be joining us first in our building and have remained with us digitally throughout the pandemic and closures.

Our youth theatre is open to all school age children from four to 11 and offers classes which nurture, encourage and develop confidence, while introducing drama games, imaginative thinking and creativity alongside activities which enable theatre skills such as mime, improvisation, vocal control and the ability to work as part of a theatre cast –collaboratively!

Our older students (11-18) develop these early foundations with more advanced drama skill games and exercises, scripted pieces and improvisations, which enable them to respond as Theatremakers, performers and devisers, often writing and creating their own characters to meet the needs of their own performances.

Many of our senior performers are interested in pursuing professional theatre careers and the skills they develop within the Swan Youth Theatre provide them with the tools to attend drama schools and proceed into the professional industry. Most vitally our enrolled members develop lasting friendships and this is crucially important for us an organisation.

Overseeing the SYT and its success is one of the most enjoyable and rewarding parts of my role here at Worcester Live; we can’t wait to welcome the SYT back for the summer term!
