WELSH superstar Sir Tom Jones has been unveiled as one of the headline acts at this year's Lakefest in Herefordshire.

The festival, which will take place in August under the shadow of Eastnor Castle, near Ledbury, described the singer as a legend after a 60-year career where he has sold more than 100 million records.

Lee Martin, from the festival, said: "I feel doubly blessed.

"After the extraordinary and uncertain year that we have all had to live through, to be returning to our field of dreams with such a timeless artist: someone who embodies integrity and has never been anything other than cool is something truly special.

"A just reward, for the patience of all those lovely Lakefest customers who rolled over their 2020 tickets and kept us alive."

Sir Tom Jones, 80, rose to fame in the 1960s with a string of top 10 hits, before continuing his career over the next 60 years, including the theme song from the James Bond film Thunderball.

More recently, he featured on BBC One talent show The Voice as a coach.

Also appearing at the festival between August 12 and 15 will be Echo & the Bunnymen, Seasick Steve, Razorlight, The Magic Numbers, Stereo MC’s and a host of other world beating noise-makers.

This year will signify a return for Lakefest as organisers were forced to cancel to event in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A festival spokesperson added: "This is our 10th year, although it should have been 11.

"The past, though, is another country and as joyous as the memories of previous Lakefest weekends undoubtedly are, our focus now is on the memories we’re about to make."
