A DRUNK man attacked his dad and left him battered and bruised, punching him to the ground in his own flat and kicking him after he fell to the floor.

Jack Warner was convicted in his absence of assault by beating against his dad, Martin Warner, in Worcester during a trial at the city's magistrates court on Monday.

The 27-year-old of Diglis Road, Worcester had been drinking before returning to his father's flat in the city's Sansome Walk on November 11, 2019.

Police officers arrived at the scene at around midnight after receiving a report about the attack on the defendant's dad, now aged 58.

Andrew Mitchinson, prosecuting, said: "It seems he attacked his father, causing bruising to his father's forehead. That did not require medical attention.

"When arrested by police he said 'it's okay - I've attacked my dad'."

An officer who attended the flat said the victim had told him that his son 'had turned up drunk and attacked him'. Warner then left the flat with his girlfriend.

The victim explained to officers that his relationship with his wife, Warner's mum, had broken down.

During the attack he described being 'punched or slapped to the left hand side of his face' which caused him to 'fall to the floor'.

"Jack Warner proceeded to kick him to the head while he was on the floor" said Mr Mitchinson.

The defendant's brother helped pull the defendant off his father, the court was told.

Officers described scratches of 3cm in length on the victim's face, a red mark on the left hand side of his forehead and across the bridge of his nose.

The officer said, when they approached Warner his girlfriend who had distinctive purple hair, was 'trying to get involved'. "I had to tell her to move back" he said.

Magistrates found Warner guilty in his absence and issued a warrant for his arrest.

They placed the assault within category one of the sentencing guidelines although the chairman said that would ultimately be for the bench that sentenced him to decide.

The court heard that Warner had no previous convictions.
