A POTTY-mouthed pest and thief has been back in court, this time to finally admit an assault.

Paul Riley, of Pals Residential Care, Ombersley Road, had originally denied assaulting Keith Lilley by beating him, but changed his plea when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on April 16.

The court heard the 38-year-old committed the offence in Evesham on February 9.

Magistrates ordered Riley pay compensation of £50, but no victim surcharge or court costs were ordered, due to his financial circumstances.

Riley was told to pay the total by May 21.

Riley, who has gone by aliases including Adam Paul in the past, has appeared in the Worcester News in the past for a number of offences.

In January 2020 we reported on him appearing in court for a string of thefts in Worcester including the theft of two Royal British Legion charity boxes containing funds for ex-servicemen.

And last month Riley was made a subject to a criminal behaviour order (CBO) after a number of convictions for public disorder.

The CBO application was made on the back of a conviction for assault on a member of the public, criminal damage by smashing a bottle of alcohol belonging to ASDA and begging, all committed on January 23 this year in Worcester city centre.

The CBO, granted for two years, prohibits from: sitting, loitering or positioning himself in order to beg or approaching people in the street and asking for money; shouting, swearing or acting in any manner that is likely to cause others in the vicinity alarm, upset or fear; refusing to leave a premises or area forming part of the premises when asked by someone who has authority to do so.

He is also banned from urinating anywhere in a public place in the area of Worcester city centre as defined by a map provided to him, save for public toilets.
