“THAT’S not cake! That’s art!” Our Trader of the Week this week is someone who cakes things for a living, and that’s not a misprint.
Maria Griffiths has been running Fondant Fantasies from her Malvern base for three years.
She is a home baker – registered, insured, and inspected – but with no shop, Maria works from home.
She said: “I’m not formally trained but took up baking to reduce my stress levels from work, now cake decorating is my job.
“Show-stopping, bespoke cakes that will never be forgotten. From elegant sugar flowers to hyper real animals, if you can imagine it – I can cake it.”
And to show that she’ll tackle anything, Maria lists some of the more weird and wonderful cakes she’s been asked to produce: a sheep’s head, a spinning roulette wheel, a grease monkey “and a life-sized bust of Biggles for a Wing Commander in the RAF”.
Maria lists her proudest moment in business as one which coincided with a tough time in her life.
“While undergoing radiotherapy for breast cancer, I made the cake for the Worcester Oncology Center’s fifth birthday – a giant pear,to represent their logo.”
Maria is part of a new Facebook group called Worcester Virtual High Street.
The ‘Worcester Virtual High Street’ group is free to join and allows independent shops, services, tradespeople, crafters, e-sellers and entrepreneurs of all kinds to promote their wares to customers free of charge.
Shoppers in turn have the chance to discover hundreds of exciting products, service providers, special offers and one-off buys on their doorstep – more details at https://worcestervirtualhighstreet.co.uk
