A FORMER Worcester student accused of raping a drunk woman says sex was 'consensual' and she complimented him on how good he was in bed.

Sam Ringer started giving evidence from the witness box at Worcester Crown Court today as the defence case got underway. The 22-year-old, who had been a sports and exercise science student at the University of Worcester, denies rape and sexual assault. Ringer said he found the complainant 'upset' and 'hyperventilating' after a night out in Worcester, putting his arm around her on January 16, 2018 to offer her reassurance. The defendant described how she was crying into his chest and that they also kissed.

Anna Midgley, defending, asked him if she had said 'no, I'm fine, I don't want you to' but Ringer said: "No she didn't."

He accepted that, as he walked her home, he said: "Are we sleeping together or not?" Ringer said the complainant had responded 'yes'.

Once inside her flat he said the two had kissed and held each other, that she performed oral sex upon him and that they also had sex with her on her back and on top of him. He told the court the complainant removed her trousers and underwear and said: "Do whatever you want to me."

Ringer of Longfield Lane, Ilkeston, also said the complainant told him: "You're actually quite good."

Andrew Jackson, prosecuting, cross-examined Ringer, asking him if he had not wanted to tell his friends about what happened 'because you knew perfectly well you had sex with her without her consent'. But Ringer said: "No, that's not true."

Ringer accepted he had lied to his friends who had been told about the alleged rape, telling them he had only walked her home rather than entering her flat.

"I would be completely wrong in saying this woman had become easy prey for you?" said Mr Jackson.

"Yeah, you would be wrong" said Ringer.

The trial continues.
