A WOMAN in her 70s was sexually assaulted in broad daylight in Droitwich.

The woman had been walking her dog in the town on April 22 when the incident occurred, at around 1pm.

She had been on a footpath running from Blake Avenue to Witton Avenue.

There, she was sexually assaulted by the man, said to be in his late 20s or early 30s.

He was wearing a beanie-type hat sweater, green shorts, converse-style shoes and carrying a small rucksack.

Since then, police have launched an investigation and are appealing for members of the public who may have information relating to the shocking attack to come forward.

Councillor for the area Cllr David Morris said the news was "shocking" and called on any members of the public who may have heard anything to contact the police immediately.

He said: "It is a shocking thing to happen to anybody of any age, particularly in broad daylight.

"I urge anyone who might have seen or heard anything to contact the police as it is a truly shocking thing to happen in Droitwich.

"People will understandably be worried by this, so it really is important they get in touch with the police if they have seen or heard anything.

"It isn't the kind of thing you expect, either there or in Droitwich as a whole because it is normally quite a quiet place

"Look out, be alert and contact the police if you know anything. Above all, stay safe."
