COLWALL woman Lyn Goswell is climbing towards her 84th birthday to raise money for local charity Malvern Welcomes and to recruit new members.

Lyn is aiming to ascend the Worcestershire Beacon twice a week until her birthday. She started her challenge in early February and will finish in June with both the celebration of her birthday and her achievement of climbing the Beacon 34 times.

She is also hoping to get fitter and to lose some ‘lockdown weight’.

Lyn said: “I still have to stop a few times going up, but I am definitely getting fitter and find myself jogging a bit on the way down!”

Malvern Welcomes provides resettlement for families who have come from war-torn areas of the Middle East and seeks to raise awareness of the reasons why they have had to leave and the extreme hardship faced.

Lyn said: “Many families have had death threats and have had to flee for their lives.

“This could be your own family – how would you feel if they were trapped in that situation?

“Some people see that there are so many thousands of families in need of help – how can we make a difference?

“My answer is that groups, like Malvern Welcomes all over UK are making a big difference to the families they welcome.”
