WORCESTER-based masked theatre company Vamos has created a Covid-safe performance especially for care home residents.

Staged entirely outside (with windows closed), but viewed from the inside, Love Through Double Glazing brings some much-needed laughter and love to older people across the UK.

Love Through Double Glazing tells the story of Florence, a care home resident with a little white dog, a trolley full of tricks and a no-nonsense attitude. When visitors come to her care home, Florence is the first on the scene and the most in the know.

So when Geoff the armchair fitness instructor, Maurice the chef de cuisine and Keith the window cleaner arrive ready for work, Florence is waiting in the wings to disrupt their day.

Brimming with clowning, music, food fights, bubbles and ballet, the performance involves the audience in Covid-safe participation, with scents to smell, cake to eat, bubbles and water pistols to get silly with.

Vamos Theatre’s Love Through Double Glazing is written and performed by clown performer Sean Kempton, who has toured the world with Cirque du Soleil; artistic director of Vamos Theatre, Rachael Savage; and emerging artist, Norah the fluffy white dog.

Rachael said: “This show has been huge fun to make and most importantly, the feedback we’ve had from our pilot performances is that care home residents are enjoying it immensely.

“We’ve made a show that is funny, cheeky and unashamedly silly, and our aim is for all of our audiences to feel included, to let their hair down and most of all to laugh.”

Richard White, director of Stanfield Care Home in Worcester, hosted a pilot performance earlier in the year. He said: “It was a riot of fun and laughter, but most importantly, love. The show generated so much interaction and comment it brought back a sense of normality to us all.”

Helen Park, activities co-ordinator at Regents Care Home, added: “Vamos Theatre is the tonic the nation needs in these difficult times – they should be prescribed on the NHS! Thanks to Norah the dog for making hearts beat a little gladder.”

Vamos will be performing at county care homes on May 10, 21 and 25.
