A REVIEW is to be carried out after reports of speeding near two Malvern schools.

The Safer Roads Partnership is investigating after a number of complaints of fast traffic near Dyson Perrins and St Joseph's in the town.

In addition, officers are being sent to assess both areas and report back on ways to make the traffic flow more safely.

St Joseph's headteacher Therese Langford welcomed the news, saying: "I certainly welcome the review and am glad that the Safer Roads Partnership have agreed to send officers.

"We do see cars going past too fast and our crossing patrol has also reported inappropriate parking near the school, causing other traffic lack of visibility."

Dyson Perrins head Mike Gunston said that although the school had not received any direct complaints, the plans for a review are welcomed.

He said: "We have not received any complaints about driving speeds in the vicinity of school but would welcome any action that makes the journey to and from school safer for our young people.

"I am pleased to say the vast majority of people drive responsibly and safely.

"However, the area is busy with pedestrians and cyclists at the start and ends of the school day, so any action that slows drivers down can only be beneficial.

"We would gladly engage with the Safer Road Partnership to discuss what improvements could be made."

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin said she had received a number of letters from constituents about the issue.

She said: "I have been getting letters from concerned constituents all over West Worcestershire about speeding and I share these with the Safer Roads Partnership, whose job it is to assess and recommend appropriate action.

"Speeding is one of the more common complaints, particularly in rural villages and measures like temporary speed indicators can act as a deterrent.

"I was concerned about reports of speeding outside schools and I am glad that these matters are under review.

"I look forward to reading the response and what actions are planned to make roads as safe as possible for road users and pedestrians."
