MEET Darcie Mae, who kept mum and dad Melissa Ross and Kieran James waiting for a very long time before she decided she wanted to come into the world.

The Welland couple, already proud parents to Mia Rose, had to wait well beyond her due date for their second girl to be born.

Melissa said: “We conceived our second baby girl during the first lockdown, after having our first, Mia Rose just nine months before via emergency c-section.

“The pregnancy flew by but then we went into the third lockdown which wouldn’t be lifted until after my due date.

“It was February 15 – exactly one year on since their grandad passed away from cancer a year after his diagnosis.

“It was a comfort, almost like a sign he was looking down on us.

“But Darcie decided she didn’t want to arrive on her due date!

“There was a bit of worry around 37 weeks that she wasn’t growing anymore so we had a growth scan later that day and they estimated her to be 6lbs so she was on track.

“I really didn’t want another c-section with looking after our one-year-old and the recovery being difficult.

“But there was still no sign by a week over my due date, so I was booked to be induced at 41 weeks plus five days if she hadn’t arrived.

“I went into hospital on February27 for my induction and labour kicked off straight away but was very slow.

“Darcie Mae finally made her appearance on Tuesday, March 2, at 7.40am, after 42 weeks and a day, weighing 9lbs.

“The Worcestershire midwives did a amazing job at helping me achieve my birth and we are so grateful for that.

“Our girls have also had three cousins born during the pandemic – Penelope, Reuben and Ayla – so they all share this same experience!”
