DEAR Editor – A letter I have sent to Nigel Huddleston.

“Sir, I am writing to you firstly as Sports Minister and secondly as my MP.

“Last night I had dinner with five friends in a busy restaurant. Wore masks when not seated and socially separated from other diners. We had a very pleasant evening.

“On arrival home I opened an email from Worcester County Cricket Club specifying the code of conduct for spectators at this weekend’s match for which I was fortunate to be allocated tickets.

“I had reluctantly accepted having to sit in the same seat all day. Whoever came up with that has no idea what cricket is about. However I am NOT prepared to sit in the open air wearing a mask all day.

“It seems to me as if the lunatics have taken charge of policy. Please tell me this is not due to HMG law, diktat, regulation, guidance or recommendation.

“If it is please explain the rationale behind be allowed to sit in a restaurant, or indeed a pub, all night without a mask but have to wear one seated outside.

“If this is club policy, I will take up with the chairman.”
