READERS have rallied behind a Worcester restaurant whose owner alleges a group enjoyed a meal and drinks before walking out without paying.

David Liew, the owner of Singapore Restaurant, says they have reported the group to the police for not paying for their meals and drinks, which came to a total of £91.

He said the group of five paid little respect to the coronavirus rules while in the venue and believes they were looking for an excuse not to pay, as they left after they were told they could not be served another round of drinks as the restaurant was near closing.

Mr Lieu said: "It is very unfair, very upsetting - these are the type of customers that ruin small independent business."

Readers took to social media blasting the group for their actions, and backing the restaurant staff.

Lisa Preedy wrote: "Best Chinese restaurant in town by miles. So sad to see it being treated this way."

Kirsty Williams said: "Hopefully someone will know them or they will see this and have some kind of common decency and pay their bill. If not then at least other restaurants can refuse to serve them."

Laura Amy King said: "Absolutely terrible behaviour. Small businesses need all the financial help they can get at the minute."

Daniel Turner said: "Let's all support them and go for food there just to prove not everyone is like this group, and restore faith in his customers."

Roxanne Robertson said: "That is disgusting, I've been to this restaurant and they are lovely people and the food is lovely. I think it's a shame people behave like that."

Robert Ardis said: "Singapore is the only Chinese I use in Worcester, great food always on time. Horrible people for doing this."

Martyn Durran added: "Absolutely disgraceful, will be spending a few quid there at the first opportunity."

Speaking this afternoon Mr Liew said people had already been into the restaurant and mentioned seeing the article, and had been nice to them offering their support.

"They told me it is so bad, people shouldn't be doing this to your restaurant," Mr Liew added.
