A POPULAR road in Worcester has been the site for several dangerous crashes and locals  want to move away from the area unless highway authorities take action.

The Swinton Lane junction on Bransford Road has seen four major accidents, with the most recent one (June 11) resulting in firefighters having to cut the driver out of the car.

Resident Ana Clarke said: “There have been 4 serious incidents at that same junction in the 8 years we’ve lived here - it’s a miracle no-one has been killed. More needs to be done to stop the many speeding motorists we see on this stretch. Our fear is our family or one of our neighbours will end up being seriously hurt while on the pavement or crossing the road.”

One of the incidents happened in 2015, when a silver BMW smashed straight through the front of a house, with the driver leaving the scene. All victims of the crash survived, however it was not the only house on the street to suffer the same consequences.

2018 saw two major accidents. The most shocking, involving a bus that crashed in to the front of a house when a white van after it attempted to overtake a taxi. The second crash that year saw a car wedged into a street sign next to the Portobello Inn.

Locals are concerned for the safety of their families and are urging highway authorities to introduce speed cameras on the road.

Robbie Campbell, resident of Bransford Road, said: "Last night, nobody knows how the driver survived. In a nutshell, this road is an absolute rat race. Cars are going way too fast and it's really intimidating.

"We're genuinely looking to move because of this road. It would be fine if people were actually driving at the speed limit but even when emergency services were here last night, there was so many examples of cars breaking the speed limit. Something needs to change".
