PEOPLE will join a Silent Walk through Worcester city centre tonight to commemorate the fourth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire.

The event has been organised by Worcester Trades Union Council (WTUC) in remembrance of the 72 people killed in the fire and to show solidarity with the Grenfell community in their continuing fight for justice.

The Silent Walk, which will be led by the ‘Worcester Remembers Grenfell’ banner, will be followed by reading of the names of those who died and a one-minute’s silence.

Whilst four years have passed, many of the issues raised by the Grenfell Tower fire remain and it is shameful that today thousands of people still live in buildings with the same cladding used in Grenfell Tower.

Neil Bevan, Brigade Secretary of Hereford and Worcester Fire Brigades Union (FBU) and Chair of WTUC said: “On the 4th anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, FBU members in Hereford and Worcester send a message of solidarity to the bereaved, survivors and residents.

"We demand that the government take urgent action to make homes safe by removing flammable cladding; to reverse years of deregulation and to put people over profit.

"Firefighters remember the victims and in their memory we continue to fight for justice.”

Anyone wishing to join the Silent Walk should meet outside the Guildhall at 6.30 pm. Social distancing measures will be in place and face coverings required.
