"It is great to have been supported by the community, we just want to say thank you to everyone."

Those who picked the city fish and chip shop from the finalists left comments including that it was "simply the best", and it had "great food, great staff".

Asked why he thought people had chosen them Mr Nicodemou said: "I think it is because we have a very wide menu.

"We have got flame grilled burgers, kebabs and family feasts.

"As well as that we have got traditional fish and chips. Fish is our main product, so we try to perfect that.

"We get the best quality, most expensive of everything. We don't do anything half hearted.

"Every minor detail is thought of, including the way we pack our food. We try to avoid using plastic bags for the environment, to prevent the food going soggy - something others don't think of.
