POLICE have announced The Cross will be closed to vehicles for the England's Euro 2020 final.

It comes after a large crowds gathered at the Worcester city centre location after England’s quarter final win against Ukraine and semi final victory over Denmark.

On Wednesday jubilant fans sang 'It's Coming Home' while setting off flares at the junction, which was closed off to cars by West Mercia Police before the match.

Worcestershire Highway's has now revealed police will take the same action on Sunday night, with no access for vehicles to The Cross from High Street, Broad Street and St Swithin's Street.

Worcestershire Highways tweeted: "Following England's success in the semi-final last night, road restrictions in The Cross and surrounding roads in Worcester will again be in operation on Sunday night from 9pm."

In announcing the closure ahead of the semi final West Mercia Police appealed for people to drink responsibly and follow the coronavirus restrictions.

Superintendent Steph Brighton said: “We want you to have fun, but you risk putting yourselves and others near you in danger by climbing on items in the street and gathering in the road."

Supt Brighton added they were closing the area to vehicles to give everyone more space as they come out of venues and disperse, and keep everyone safe as people make their way home after watching the match.

The final against Italy will take place on Sunday at 8pm.
