DRIVERS will need to follow diversions when a main route to Worcester city centre closes later this week.

Hallow's Main Road is due to close from Thursday (July 22) until Wednesday, September 1 so sewer pipes can be connected to the new housing development.

It is set to cause major disruption for motorists though Worcestershire County Council said the work had been planned during the summer holidays to minimise issues.

The work will see a three metre trench dug into the centre of Main Road outside the Piper Homes development.

The diversions you can take:

A449

Worcestershire County Council is suggesting that people use the Holt Bridge to cross the river.

If you are travelling into the city, you will leave the A443 at the junction with the A4133 near the Red Lion pub then take the A449 at Ombersley to continue your journey.

If you are travelling in the opposite direction, you will leave the A449 at Ombersley, travel to the Holt Bridge and then take the first exit at the mini roundabout onto School Lane.

You will then take another left opposite Cottage Store and Post Office onto the Worcester Road A443.

Lower Broadheath/Wichenford

From the Hallow Road coming out of Worcester, turn off at Martley Road and follow it as it turns into the B4204.

Take a right onto Venn Lane near the Masons Arms.

Take Venn Lane to Wichenford and at the end of the road make a right turn toward Moseley.

Follow the Moseley Road to Hallow Road A443.

To reach Worcester from Hallow, take a right at Moseley Road from Hallow Road near the Post Office, take a left down Venn Road until you reach the end.
