Thousands of elephant-seekers took on Worcester’s Big Parade sculpture trail in the exhibition's first week in the city.

People from all over the UK came to visit the brightly coloured elephants in the open-air trail, which travels six miles through the city’s streets and public spaces.

Since the trail launched on July 13, the app has recorded more than 22,500 visits to individual elephants – with around 600 "ele-selfies" uploaded to its gallery.

Sara Matthews, business development manager for St Richard’s Hospice, said: “It’s wonderful to see so many people exploring the trail and reconnecting with friends and family here in the city.

"The app is a really great way to discover the sculptures – as you can reveal, and listen to, facts about each elephant and artist, alongside unlocking information about the city too.

She added: "Most of all we love seeing all the ele-selfies – there are some brilliant snaps of people meeting our herd, please keep them coming!"

The trail lasts eight weeks and features a 66-strong herd – 30 of which will be auctioned in October to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice.

A review by Sarah Lewis on the trail’s Facebook page said: "I completed all 66 elephants today, it's such a lovely feature to have around Worcester and it's allowed me to explore new areas of my home town too!"

While another, left by Julie Nicholls, read: "Fantastic day today with my daughter and granddaughters searching for elephants in Worcester. Thank you!"

The app, sponsored by Harrison Clark Rickerbys, costs £1.99 and is available for download from the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Trail maps can be picked up at various places across the city – including the trail’s pop-up shop on Broad Street and Worcester Tourist Information Centre. Handcrafted elephants and parade merchandise is also available at the pop-up shop.

Worcester’s Big Parade runs until September 5.

Once the trail has ended, there will be a final chance to see all 66 sculptures together at farewell events at Worcestershire County Cricket Club on Thursday 30 September - Sunday 3 October and again from Thursday, October 7 - Sunday, October 10 2021.

Tickets for farewell events will go on sale later this month via www.worcestersbigparade.co.uk. The large elephants will be auctioned to raise funds for St Richard’s later in October.
