Royal Mail customers in Worcester are facing disruptions to their post due after workers were forced to isolate due to Covid-19.

The company warned customers of disruptions to service in certain parts of the country, as thousands of staff were "pinged" by the NHS Covid-19 app.

Worcestershire was not included in the 12 areas affected by the disruption. However the Worcester News some residents have had delays to their post.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “The health and safety of our colleagues and our customers is our number one priority.

"In a limited number of areas, we are experiencing some disruption to service due to COVID related absences. In impacted areas, we are focused on providing as comprehensive a service as possible to our customers.”

The company said certain offices are experiencing a "high level of absence" on Tuesday (July 20) after almost a third of the workforce were forced to carry out the ten day isolation period.

A notice on the company's website said: "Due to resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures, deliveries in some areas may be disrupted this week."

Areas on the list affected by the disruption, include Bath, Blackpool, Chorley, Debden, Enfield, Henley on Thames, Middleton, Newton Abbot, Plympton, Rochdale, Southport and Worthing.

In a service update posted today (July 22), the company said: "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. If resourcing issues, associated self-isolation and safety measures prevent this, we’ll deliver at least every other day. It’s only in extreme cases – where offices are severely affected by absence levels - that this may not be possible."

During the pandemic, the postal company made temporary changes to the guaranteed times of its Special Delivery Guaranteed by 9am and 1pm.

Royal Mail said: "Our current guarantees are: Our guaranteed delivery for Special Delivery Guaranteed by 9am the next working day is by 11am the next working day and our guaranteed delivery for Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm the next working day is by 4pm the next working day."
