THIS cocktail is believed to be the most expensive in Worcester - and it is causing quite a stir online.

People are left open-mouthed when they spot the £500 Cadena Dream on the menu at cocktail bar Cafe Cadena in The Cross.

But the eyewatering price tag has caused some controversy with the cocktail being labelled "pretentious" on social media.

Created by manager Leah Robinson, the Cadena Dream has fresh raspberries, shaken with Chambord, vodka, lime juice, simple syrup topped up with Premium Laurent Perrier Rose Champagne.

Topping off the 1.5l cocktail are edible flowers and fresh raspberries then there is a bit of a spectacle when it is brought to the table to grab the attention of other guests.

Cafe Cadena owner Andy Bowler said: "I hope it's the most expensive cocktail in Worcester.

"We want it to cause a stir, that's what it is supposed to do.

"We want some interest in it whether that is positive or negative.

"Some people love it, some people hate it.

"We've had people say it is pretentious which I don't really get because you can choose to buy it or not.

"If you went into a supermarket and see a premium steak but it's out of your budget you just wouldn't buy it and walk on.

"People like the drama though so there's a lot of debate going back and forth."

Mr Bowler's background is in London nightclubs where a £40,000 cocktail caused a similar stir.

Though they thought it would not sell and only generate interest however that weekend two footballers both bought the drink for their table.

Worcester News:

"We have sold a few of the £500 cocktails - two women recently bought one while on a shopping trip.

"What people really want is the hoopla that comes with it.

"It comes with a few fireworks and is served in a large fishbowl Champagne glass with a few flares and the music stops for five minutes while its served."

He explained the price tag was similar to the mark up on other drinks in bars and clubs where a £1.50 cost price drink is sold for £5.

Cadena Dream generally takes two people around one and a half hours to drink.

Cafe Cadena has been open for two years and the Grade II listed building, which was previously a Costa Coffee, has been given a complete makeover.

There are future plans to include a roof terrace at the venue.
