THE latest attempt to stop drivers from flouting bus lane instructions in the city centre comes into effect this week.

Last year, the bus lane, both into Lowesmoor from Sansome Place and also from Lowesmoor towards Nicholas Street had a traffic enforcement camera installed after concerns were raised about the high congestion in the area.

The Lowesmoor to St Nicholas Street lane is enforceable round the clock, while the Sansome Street to Lowesmoor lane is in force from 3.30pm to 6.30pm each day.

The only vehicles that can use the lanes are buses and emergency vehicles.

When the cameras were first installed, drivers were given warning letters but Worcestershire County Council said at the time that future offenders would be given £60 fixed penalty notices.

Earlier this month the council made an order which will update the prohibition of driving, except for buses and cycles orders, and this will come into effect on Thursday, July 29.

The area has long been the subject of discussion, with drivers regularly ignoring the advisory signs not to use the lanes.

Meanwhile, drivers using the Bath Road are being reminded that no waiting restrictions will come into force this week.

Motorists will no longer be able to park on the stretch of main road opposite its junction with The Hill Avenue.

No waiting restrictions also come into effect on the A38 from a point opposite the parade of shops at the foot of Timberdine Avenue for a distance of some 60 metres heading into the city centre. Both sets of restrictions take effect from Thursday, July 29.

And a Barbourne street will be closed for more than a week next month while roadworks are carried out.

Flag Meadow Walk will be closed from its junction with St George's Lane North to its junction with Lansdowne Road.

Work is due to start on Thursday, August 12, and is set to take up to nine days.
