POLICE have made arrests at a car meet in Worcester.

Officers were called to the A4440 to reports of 20 cars racing up and down the dual carriageway.

One driver, who has only just passed his test, was arrested for possession of cannabis and failing a roadside drug test.

The results of the blood test showed the driver was 3 1/2 times the limit for cannabis.

He has been banned from driving for 15 months and ordered to pay over £200 in fines, costs and toward victim services.

Several cars were stopped, including drivers from as far away as Essex.

West Mercia Police officers tweeted a statement that read: "We attended report of a cars racing along the A4440, upon our arrival in excess of 20 cars blocking roads and lining up in the carriageway.

"Most of them weren't too keen to stop and chat! However some were from as far away as Essex!

"One driver was arrested for failing a roadside drugwipe and possession of cannabis. Having only held his driving licence for a few months he won't be holding it for much longer.

"Several cars were stopped and driver details obtained.

"The majority of the cars dispersed and we prevented a race from starting when we arrived.

"We were there within minutes of the call coming in and as well as the arrest we searched two people under the misuse of drugs act."

This stretch of road has become notorious for race meets, with many residents saying the issues have been going on for years.

A mother of a newborn previously said the noise from loud exhausts late at night is making her life a misery.

She said: "Almost every Sunday at around 10 o clock they meet up at KFC and then treat Warndon Villages as their private race track, It can be heard by residents far and wide.

"Luckily it doesn’t wake my son as we have a white noise machine, it does however wake me up and with a newborn you are awake enough as it is without being kept awake during feeds.

"No-one likes getting up for work on a Monday but they make that even worse by keeping everyone awake, it honestly sounds like a race track, I dread to think the speed they are going.

"I’m not sure what the police do but it’s obviously not enough of a deterrent as it’s been going on for such a long time.

"I even got acoustic glazing to help with the road noise and can still hear it clear as day."
