IT has been a busy week for the new landlady at a popular city centre pub as she plans to open the door on Friday.

Mandy Smith took over Worcester Steak and Grill House in the Corn Market on Monday and has spent the week getting ready for its grand reopening.

Despite an extremely busy week, Mandy is excited to get the doors open having spent the last two years battling cancer.

In April 2019, she was diagnosed with skin cancer then six months later found she also had breast cancer.

Having undergone 18 rounds of chemotherapy, she is excited for the next stage of her life to begin.

Previously, she ran the Deer's Leap in Barbourne for two years until 2009 and has experience at other Worcester pubs.

"I am excited to keep it going, I've had two years stuck in the house fighting cancer.

"This has given me something to think about apart from cancer and I'm excited to get back to living a normal life now.

"It's been hard work to get it ready but lots of people have been commenting saying congratulations and they are excited to come in."

She thanked Sarah Tidmarsh for her hard work helping to get the place sorted.
