A TEENAGER whose little sister died of cancer aged just seven has taken on a gruelling 99 mile cycling challenge in her memory.

Blake Bishop, 16, and his neighbour Daz Cox set off from Acorns Children's Hospice, Bath Road, and made it to the Grand Pier in Weston-Super-Mare.

They were two of Lily-Mai Bishop's favourite places to visit before her death at the hospice on June 25, 2018.

Worcester News:

Worcester News followed Lily-Mai's journey which was documented on a Facebook page Lily's Cancer Journey, run by her mum Liz Bishop.

It took 13 hours for the pair to make it to the pier which included a two and a half hour accidental detour to Clevedon.

But despite the setback, the teen completed the challenge and has so far raised over £1,000 for the hospice.

Worcester News:

His proud mum said: "Lily-Mai and Blake were so very close.

"Blake was five when she was born and if she left the house he would always give her a kiss no matter who was around and he would sit and play with her.

"Lily-Mai loved going to Acorns and had been going since she was three.

"June 2018 was the last time she went in for respite care and she had to stay and we were allowed to stay too.

Worcester News:

"Acorns did everything for us - they cooked tea, provided snacks, did washing - they looked after us so we didn't have anything else to worry about.

"He remembers that care and how we were treated like family and wanted to say thank you."

Blake was inspired by his mum's skydive in July 2020 but was too young to take on the challenge himself.

Worcester News:

"He kept on and on about doing it and set up the page and was adamant he would do it.

"Today he seems absolutely fine but is feeling shattered and his legs hurt a little.

"I'm very proud of him."
