The favourite Olympic sport for people in Worcester is trampolining, new data shows.

Worcestershire has had its fair share of success stories with Droitwich swimmer Matt Richards picking up a gold medal, Malvern’s Evie Richards and Emily Lewis impressing in mountain biking and kayaking respectively while Worcester Warriors’ Alex Matthews was part of the rugby 7s side that narrowly missed out on a bronze.

And the medal fever has led to many Worcestershire residents taking to the internet to find out how they can get involved.

Data collected by Better, the UK’s largest social enterprise, has revealed which Olympic sports have been searched for the most times across the county.

Top of the pile is trampolining, closely followed by mountain biking with skateboarding and tennis tied to round up the top three.

The data also shows that, nation-wide, the most-read Wikipedia page is for one of the Olympic’s newest sports, Karate, and is followed by Canoeing and Athletics.

Meanwhile Wimbledon tennis champion and 2012 men’s individual winner Andy Murray is the most popular athlete, with gold medal winning rower Helen Glover and and the fastest British woman in history, Dina Asher-Smith, hot on his heels.

The ‘big four’ sports of football, rugby, boxing and golf were not included in the research.
