A NEW free interactive app, that would bring Droitwich history to life, is being launched at the end of the month.

The app, from Droitwich Spa Heritage and Information Centre, goes live over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The app, known as Droitwich Augmented Reality Trail (DART), uses augmented reality (AR) - the interactive experience of a real-world environment enhanced by computer-generated items.

The popular Pokemon Go app uses similar technology.

The app has been made possible after funding was received from Wychavon District Council and has been developed by county firm Steak Festival.

Catherine Finn & Emily Porter-Elliot, heritage managers, said: "The launch of the DART is a really exciting project that will bring our history to life and will showcase all that Droitwich has to offer.

"We hope it will boost our local businesses by bringing more tourists to our fantastic town and will give local residents a new, fun activity to share with family, friends and visitors."

The public will be able to download the app to their smart device on August 29, in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.

It has an interactive map, which leads you to all the points of interest around the town and has fun quizzes as well as the videos and web links.

Whilst following the trail the user will receive notifications to guide them around, and the user can collect virtual bags of salt.

Droitwich mayor, Councillor William Moy - will launch it at Droitwich Heritage Centre on August 27 with actor and video producer Joe Chambers in character as Romulus Maximus.
