Organisers of the Hanbury Show have said they weren't expecting such high numbers of visitors which caused mass traffic problems on bank holiday Monday.

The Park Hall Farm event has attracted 15,000 visitors in previous years and it is thought Monday’s event was in even higher demand due to the cancelled shows in July 2020 and 2021.

Now organisers have responded, saying that they couldn’t have prepared for such crowds but adding that they were happy overall with how things went.

A spokesman for the show said: “Well, what a day! No one could have anticipated the tremendous success today has been. Bringing people from far and wide.

“Planning an event with an ongoing pandemic was always going to be a huge challenge which required us to make changes along the way.

“It is regrettable, we couldn’t have envisaged the sheer volume of traffic that came to the show and we will be reviewing and addressing this for the next show.”

They added: “The success of today enables more generous and continued support to our nominated charities that is a huge factor and reason we continue to organise this type of show.

“Thanks to the tremendous work of our volunteers who have gone above and beyond in their duties today.  Once again thank you for your patience and support.”

Many would-be visitors were forced to give up and go home as traffic issues began to develop from as early as 10am.

On Facebook, Lynne Leith, wrote: “It took us two hours to get there from Worcester and many people in front of us turned around. If we hadn’t already bought our tickets online, we would have gone home too.”

Another user, Claire Molton, wrote: “A complete farce, I gave up too. Perhaps the organisers could get a specialist traffic management company in next time to manage the traffic and access to the show properly or if they did use one today, then use a more competent company instead.”

Meanwhile Craig Merrell wrote: “It took us nearly two hours to travel four miles. After we'd parked up, we walked round and were back in the car in 30 mins. Very disappointed.”
